Transcription
A Negro Fellow, named Tom, a Bricklayer by Trade, formerly belonging to Dr. Martin and since to Mr. Jacob Deveaux, of whom I lately purchased him, having absconded and secreted himself from me without so much as giving me an Opportunity of speaking with him since he became my Property. These are therefore to offer a Reward of Ten Pounds to any person who will apprehend the said Fellow, and deliver him to the Warden of the Work-House. And whereas the said Negro Fellow has heretofore been employed, and has undertaken Jobs in the Way of his business, without Comptroll, I do hereby give Notice, that I will never allow him such Liberties, and that every Person who may hereafter employ him, unless with a written Licence under my Hand, will be prosecuted with the utmost Severity of the Law. RAWLINS LOWNDES.
