Notes

Humphrey Sommers worked as the roof slater for the Pinckney Mansion located at the corner of East Bay and Guignard Streets. According to the Pinckney Papers held at the University of South Carolina South Caroliniana Library, Sommers received payment for his work late 1747. It is possible that Caesar was among those enslaved craftspeople that Sommers brought with him to complete the Pinckney Mansion roof.
